In 2018, the output of refined lead was 5.112 million tons, up 9.8 percent, while the output of refined zinc was 5.68 million tons, down 3.22 percent. It accounts for 43.9% and 42.8% of the world respectively, ranking first in the world for 17 and 26 years in a row.

In 2018, imported lead concentrate 1.23 million tons fell 3.8% compared with the same period last year, imported zinc concentrate 2.97 million tons increased 22% compared with the same period last year, imported refined lead 130000 tons increased 64% year-on-year, and imported refined zinc 720000 tons increased 6% year-on-year. Exports of 22000 tons of refined zinc increased by 49 per cent over the same period last year. The export volume of lead-acid battery decreased by 4% (of which the export of starting battery decreased by 13.5%), and the export volume of galvanized sheet decreased.

Following the restorative growth of profits in 2017, the profit differentiation of mining and metallurgical enterprises increased in 2018. The profits of 688 lead and zinc enterprises above 21.38 billion yuan fell 27% compared with the same period last year, accounting for 13% of the total profits of non-ferrous metals. Of these, 19.3 billion yuan from 387 mining enterprises fell 4.5 per cent. The profits and losses of 301 smelting enterprises offset their profits and losses (one lost 1.4 billion yuan). The profit of 2.1 billion yuan decreased by 77%. TC declined in the first three quarters, costs rose, and prices fell in the second half of the year.

Comparison between the lead and zinc industry and the non-ferrous industry: in 2018, the profit margin of sales income of the lead and zinc mining industry was 24.6%, which was about 10 percentage points higher than that of the main business of mines in the country; the profit margin of lead and zinc smelting was significantly lower than that of the main business of smelting in the country. The loss area and loss amount of smelting enterprises increased.

Domestic zinc concentrate production in 2018 was 4.16 million tons, a slight increase of 0.9% over the same period last year. The main environmental protection and safety are still the main factors that limit the increment of mines in various places. Among them, Huayuan area in western Hunan is basically in the stage of rectification and reform in 2018, with a reduction of nearly 100000 metal tons, and the output of northern areas such as Inner Mongolia has also decreased slightly due to the decline of mine taste and other factors. Therefore, although there is a new expansion of the mine in 2018, the output of the whole year is basically unchanged compared with the same period last year. In 2019, according to SMM, without considering the reduction, the increase is expected to be more than 100000 tons. However, environmental protection and safety will still be important factors to limit the increment of mines. On the whole, the increment of domestic zinc concentrate in 2019 is still limited.

As the refinery touches the cost line to reduce production and overhaul, environmental protection relocation and other problems affect the release of output. At the same time, the supply of domestic and foreign mines has increased under the stimulation of better profits. Since July 2018, the TC of domestic and foreign zinc concentrate has risen rapidly from the low level, reaching a new high since 2013. At present, the TC of domestic zinc concentrate has risen back to around 6500 yuan / metal ton, an increase of about 3000 yuan / metal ton over the same period last year; the import processing fee has been reported to be about US $240 / dry ton, an increase of about US $200 / dry ton over the same period last year. The recovery growth of mines at home and abroad, but considering the gradual release of refinery production and increasing part of the demand, there may not be much room for zinc concentrate processing fees to continue to rise in the second half of 2019, but it will still maintain a relatively high level of operation.

In the first half of 2019, under the influence of policy, environmental protection and other factors, the recovery process of refinery production is slow, and downstream consumption is expected to be slightly better than last year. Under the support of overall low inventory, zinc prices still have room to rise. With the passage of time, with the gradual recovery of refinery production under high profits and the gradual increase in supply, zinc prices may be optimistic in the second half of the year. SMM estimates that the March range of LME in 2019 will be US $3,150 per tonne for LME, and the zinc range for SHFE will be RMB24500 per tonne.

In 2017, the sales revenue of China's top 100 companies in the battery industry exceeded 375.149 billion yuan, an increase of 29.7 percent over the 289.248 billion yuan in 2016. In 2017, there were 21 lead-acid battery enterprises among the top 100 in the battery industry, and the sales revenue of lead-acid batteries was 97.867 billion yuan, accounting for 26.1%. There are 40 lithium-ion battery enterprises, and the sales revenue of lithium-ion battery is 129.3 billion yuan, accounting for 34.5%.

The profit margin of the lead-acid battery industry has hovered in the low range of 2% Murray 4% for many years. According to statistics from the China Battery Industry Association on 52 large and medium-sized lead-acid battery enterprises, the main business income in 2016 was 100.654 billion yuan, the total profit was 3.942 billion yuan, the profit margin was 3.92%, and the net profit was 2.225 billion yuan, with a profit margin of only 2.21%. With the increasing emphasis on the recycling of lead-acid batteries from the State Council to various ministries and commissions, the supervision of the whole life cycle of lead-acid batteries has become an inevitable trend. The combination of "recycling system (ground grid) + Internet of things platform (Skynet)" has become an important starting point for government supervision and enterprise internal control. The advantages of green supply chain system in solving competition and capital pressure will be gradually highlighted and become the preferred scheme for enterprises to achieve profits under the current fiscal and tax policies. In February 2019, the solid Department and solid Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment organized the environmental protection departments of 20 pilot provinces and cities to hold a pilot seminar on centralized collection and trans-regional transfer system for lead battery production enterprises. 2019 will be the first year for the pilot project of lead battery collection and transfer system on a large scale throughout the country, and the pilot work of battery recycling in all provinces and cities will be carried out in an all-round way.

In 2018, there are 139 non-ferrous metal enterprises above scale in the city, 22 have main business income of more than 1 billion yuan, and 25 enterprises have entered the top 50 non-ferrous metal enterprises in the province, that is to say, half of Hunan's non-ferrous metal industry is in Chenzhou. The annual output of silver in Chenzhou accounts for 1/5 of the world's and 1/3 of the country's. Jingui Silver Industry ranks among the top 500 private manufacturing enterprises in China. But in retrospect, environmental protection is still a key factor affecting the lead and zinc industry. The leaders of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment are very concerned about the recycling of waste lead-acid batteries in Shanghai. In July last year, Zhou Zhiqiang, a deputy inspector, led the leaders of the solid Management Center to the alliance's research work. The experience of waste battery recycling in Shanghai has also been affirmed by the leadership.
